Autism-Friendly Vacations for Adults
Finding a real vacation for an adult family member with autism can feel like a short list of options. Special Journeys was built to make that list longer — fully chaperoned vacations, run by the same trained team from pickup to drop-off, so your family member gets a real trip, not just a “sensory-friendly” label at one attraction.
Built for Autism, Not Just “Accessible”
General accessible-travel resources are usually built around physical accessibility: ramps, wide doorways, accessible transportation. Autism-friendly travel is a different problem — it’s about routine, supervision, and support that lasts the entire trip, not just a single destination. Every Special Journeys vacation is designed around that difference.
Safety Your Family Can Count On
For families, safety is the first question, and the last thing that should be left to chance. Every trip is staffed by trained Travel Companions who manage medication, stay with their small group at all times, and know how to step in if a moment starts to feel overwhelming, all under a Tour Leader responsible for the entire itinerary. You’ll always know who is looking after your family member, every day of the trip.
What Every Trip Includes
- A 4:1 traveler-to-Travel-Companion ratio, so your family member is never in a large, unsupervised group
- A dedicated Tour Leader who manages the entire itinerary — transportation, hotels, meals, and attractions
- Trained medication management, handled by staff throughout the trip
- Sensory-aware preparation, so new sights and sounds are previewed before the trip begins
- A consistent, predictable daily schedule
- A 1:1 Travel Companion option, for travelers who need more individualized support than the standard group ratio
Helping Your Family Member Prepare
New sights, sounds, and situations can be a lot to take in, so we help travelers know what’s coming before they experience it. Our team walks through what a destination will be like in advance using simple, honest previews — whether that’s what a crowded theme park sounds like, what it feels like to be on a horse, or the noise of waves and voices at the beach. Pairing that preview with a clear walk-through of the day ahead means fewer surprises once the trip begins.

Together, they’ve enjoyed shows in Branson, country music in Nashville, and the rides at Dollywood: ordinary vacation moments made possible by a trip built around real support.
