I LOVE Animals Zoo Trip
Walking Level: Moderate
Signup Deadline: Monday, May 21, 2018
Lions, Tigers, and Bears! Oh My!
Travel with Special Journeys on this unique animal interaction and adventure. Your trip will begin with a stop near the Kansas City area at the Topeka Zoo. We will tour their amazing Tropical Rainforest exhibit, which was the first exhibit of its kind in the nation. The exhibit includes many animals that you would see in the rainforest such as bats, birds, reptiles and sloths. Don't be fooled by a sloth's slow movements though, it's actually their defense mechanism against predators! And since we are already watching the sloths hang about in the trees, we might as well head over to see the orangutans. The orangutan exhibit at the Topeka Zoo allows you to watch the orangutans at the tree-top level. Since they spend about 90 percent of their time in the trees, it's the best way to view these animals. And speaking of heights, as tickets are available we may get the chance to see eye-to-eye with the tallest animal on land by feeding a giraffe. We will then head on over to the 'touch tank' to feed and feel the velvety skin of a stingray. It's a neat experience you won't want to miss, when stingrays eat they suck the food right out of your hand just like a vacuum cleaning up dirt!
We will also take a tour of Grant's Farm, also located in the St. Louis area. We will take time to experience one-on-one wildlife at Grant's Farm. This is a historic area where Ulysses S. Grant originally worked apportion of the land. This wonderful attraction provides a unique experience of history, heritage and wildlife. We will see such animals as goats, clandestine horses, wallabies, elephants and more!
From here we will travel to Toledo Ohio. With over 5,300 animals representing over 750 species, The Toledo Zoo is one of the world's most complete zoos. We will see Tasmanian devils…. No, we're not talking about the cartoon character! You may even get a chance to hear their loud screams which is how they earned their 'devil' nickname. We will also get a chance to see their spectacular aquarium. At this newly renovated venue you'll see fish that glow in the dark, sea turtles, sea nettles, and many more exotic animals.
Our final Zoo on this tour will be the in Chicago. Here we will explore many of the exhibits which include the Arctic Tundra where the polar bears live. In the Macaque Forest we will see the Japanese monkeys with grey fur and red faces. At the Lion House, we can see the King of the Jungle along with other rare animals such as the Eurasian Lynx and Pumas (no, not the shoes!). We will also swing by the Hamill Family Wild Encounters at the Brookfield Zoo. This 3-acre exhibit offers a hands-on experience to touch and feed animals including parakeets and goats.
You won't want to miss out on this rawring good time!
