Enjoy holiday lights, shows and shopping on this holiday tour of Kansas City with Special Journeys!
You'll be singing 'It's Beginning to Look a Lot Like Christmas' to yourself on our first day of this trip. After arriving in Kansas City, we will take a tour to see the holiday lights in the southern part of the city. We'll see decorated houses, buildings and trees that sparkle and shine in the evening sky. Be sure to keep your eye out for Santa and his reindeer, they'll surely be atop a roof somewhere on our tour!
The next day we go to the Hallmark Visitor's Center, and as you know, no one does Christmas like Hallmark! This iconic brand has shaped the industry of greeting cards and wholesome holiday movies. We will tour the Center and enjoy their interactive displays and wonderful exhibits, one of which is the J.C. Hall Christmas Tree Exhibit. Around the holidays when the company first began, employees used to make the founder of Hallmark, J.C. Hall, large Christmas cards that everyone signed. Eventually there were so many signatures as the company grew, so it evolved into creating and decorating life-sized Christmas trees. The tradition lasted for 17 years, until Mr. Hall's death, however all of the trees are on display for us to see. They're very personal to Hallmark, and extremely intricate, and certainly contain lots of special ornaments to see.
Also at the Hallmark Visitor's Center, is a bow making machine. Christmas is synonymous with gift giving, and many gifts have a bow to put on top. Here you'll be able to see just how Hallmark makes each one of those star-shaped bows you see on a gift. At the next exhibit, we will view some of the most popular Hallmark Keepsake Ornaments. These ornaments have been produced since 1973, and every year since, Hallmark will produce nearly 400 designs to decorate your tree. Before we leave the Center, we'll stop in at the Hallmark store to see if you can find a special souvenir or ornament to commemorate your Kansas City holiday trip!
Our final activity of this trip brings us to the Kansas City Repertory Theatre for a showing of Charles Dicken's A Christmas Carol. During the show we'll recount the classic story of Ebenezer Scrooge, who is visited by the ghosts of Christmas Past, Present, and Yet to Come. The show at Kansas City Repertory is a holiday tradition for many Kansas City residents, as the Theatre has been putting on the play for over 39 years! It's a wonderful production that will be the perfect way to end our holiday tour of the Kansas City.
