OUR TRIPS

 

We work with all levels and types of disabilities (with some exceptions). Our goal is to provide fun, high quality and reasonably priced vacations that are staffed with experienced volunteers and tour leaders. We return our travelers happy, well cared for and with exciting memories of new places!

The trip fee includes all transportation (including local pickup/drop-off), entertainment, attractions, lodging, all meals and Staff supervision. Each Traveler sleeps in their own bed, two per room with staff in the same or nearby room.

New Photo DVDs - All travelers will receive a photo DVD that shows a slideshow of the trip's photos in your DVD player/TV and can also be used to print any trip photos!

All aboard on a train ride to St Louis! We will take Amtrak into this exciting capital city and enjoy many wonderful local attractions including the world famous Arch and shopping at the exciting Union Station. We will also eat at Hard Rock Café and explore several places in Forest Park (the “Crown Jewel” of St. Louis) including the Science Museum/Planetarium, the Missouri History Museum and the Jewel Box which offers seasonal flower displays. On the train we will enjoy a sit-down meal as we watch the scenery roll by. If a winter time train ride sounds like fun, join us on this trip to St Louis! Fun Speaker - Come meet Greg Gunderson, a nationally recognized deaf racecar driver, as he shares his story of success both on and off the race track! Greg entered the sport with an iron determination and little regard to his deafness. This bright-eyed, redheaded driver has a fierce competitiveness on the racetrack and his successful records have proven that deafness is no hindrance. Both on and off the track, Greg has continued to prove himself as a highly successful driver setting standards in sprint car racing and motor sports. Listen to Greg share his story and motivate you to leap forward and do anything with your life!

Food - A free dinner will be offered at the start of the event. The food will be mouth watering Sloppy Joes, chips, drinks and dessert! In keeping with the Special Journeys tradition of client service, special diets can be accommodated with advance notice.

Entertainment - Join us for a bundle of laughs as an improv comedy group presents an exciting and hilarious performance. This unique comedy group consists of uproariously funny performers, each with their unique style. They combine together to produce a clean, family friendly show that is guaranteed to have you rolling on the floor and laughing out loud!

This Spring take a trip to America’s Dairy Land. We will travel to Lake Geneva, WI where we will take a boat ride and have time for shopping at some of the over 50 specialty stores in the Lake Geneva shopping district. From there we will head to Milwaukee where we will see the Mitchell Domes and explore the Milwaukee Public Museum. We will also see Lake Michigan and tour a real, working light house! In addition, we will experience a fish boil dinner and visit a cheese factory - - true Wisconsin favorites!

Yellowstone National Park

On this trip we will tour Yellowstone National Park and experience Old Faithful, the most popular geyser in the world, and hundreds of other geysers and hot springs. Cheyenne Frontier Days

Travel west partner and join us at the Daddy of 'em all: the world's largest rodeo and western celebration! We will start by seeing performances by Rascal Flatts and Taylor Swift! The next night we will see 45 of the best Professional Bull Riders perform in the PBR event.

We will also see the rodeo, Old West Museum, Indian Village, the breathtaking USAF Thunderbirds, the Carnival Midway, a Grand Parade, eat a wonderful pancake breakfast and see the Wyoming National Guard Air Show with the US Air Force Academy's Wings of Blue parachute team. This will be a peach of a trip! Join Special Journeys on a tour of Michigan. We will fly to Chicago and start our trip on the eastern shores of Lake Michigan with time for shopping and dinner on the lake. We will also travel to Detroit and explore the Henry Ford Museum. Along the way we will stop at unique stores and fun roadside markets to sample fresh cherries, peaches and other fresh summer fruit and homemade treats. On our return trip we will stop in Battle Creek to tour the Kellogg Museum and have lunch with Tony the Tiger! It’ll be GREEEEEEAT!!

Iowa State Fair

Summer is not complete without a visit to a state fair. The Iowa State Fair is the BEST in the Midwest with exhibits, shows, singers, animals, and the midway covering 400 acres and 80 buildings! Enjoy top-notch entertainment, rides and also see neat farm animals, newborn cows, pigs and chicks and a brand new agricultural educational facility. We will also stop and see many of the 500 booths and exhibits at the fair.

Enjoy shopping and eating 20 different kinds of food-on-a-stick. All meals included which is awesome since there will be nearly 200 different food stands to choose from! Fried Twinkies, Fried Oreos and Fudge Covered Waffles optional but recommended!

Want to catch some BIG FISH? Travel with us Lake Oahe, the 4th largest man-made reservoir in the United States and enjoy WORLD CLASS fishing with professional guide service. We will fish for walleye (average size is 14 to 20 inches) and large northern pike (average size is 10 to 15 pounds). We will also fish for salmon, white bass, and smallmouth bass. If you are looking for catfish, the catfish fishery is under-fished and the sizes are huge!
