TRAVEL COMPANIONS
At times a Traveler may not feel comfortable attending a vacation without a familiar face along. We welcome, encourage, and will at times require that travel companions join us. Travel companions may require an additional, reduced fee unless they volunteer to work with a small group of 2 or 3 other individuals. Please contact our office for further details.
TRAVELERS USING WHEELCHAIRS
Travelers using wheelchairs are welcome on each and every trip that we offer. There are a limited number of spots available so please contact us in advance. In our experience, travelers using a wheelchair require extra assistance from staff experienced with transferring, lifting, etc. For this reason, it is necessary to bring your own staff or have our office provide staff for 1:1 assistance. The 1:1 staff travels at an additional, reduced fee which varies for each trip. Please contact us for 1:1 pricing for the trip that you are interested in.
MEDICATIONS
We strongly recommend that medicine for one extra day be packed. We prefer that all pills be packed in bubble packs, most pharmacies can assist with this.
If you are unable to use bubble packs then properly labeled medicine envelopes along with a photocopy of the prescription are required. Any liquid medicines need to be packed in separate zip lock (or double zipper) bags to avoid spills. We find that pill boxes with clear plastic tabs are not suitable for travelling as the tabs will accidently detach. Please contact us if you have any questions or concerns regarding medications or medication packing.
Volunteers Needed
With the assistance of an experienced Tour Leader our volunteer staff provide supervision to ensure a safe and enjoyable experience for a group of 3 or 4 Travelers. We also occasionally have a need for 1:1 staff volunteers. In exchange, volunteer staff go on the vacation completely FREE. Volunteer staff are typically group home staff, caregivers, case managers, and others with experience and/or a desire to work with special needs individuals. Contact us for more information.
PASSPORT REQUIREMENTS
Starting in June of 2009 all US Citizens leaving the country will need either a Passport Book or a Passport Card. All of Special Journeys trips that require a passport are identified at the bottom of the trip description.
A Passport Book will allow you to travel anywhere (air, land or sea) and costs $100 to obtain. A Passport Card costs $45 and allows land and cruise travel to Canada, Mexico, the Caribbean and Bermuda. The Passport Card cannot be used for air travel outside of the US (even the countries listed above). Your passport will be valid for ten years, allowing you plenty of time for lots of fun trips!
